The Challenge
The client offered something every artist quietly hopes for: complete creative freedom. The only request was to create paintings that brought depth and atmosphere to a spa in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Rather than illustrating a familiar tale, I explored the quieter emotions beneath it, drawing from the unspoken longing between Ravana and Sita. The challenge was to transform an ancient epic into something intimate, contemplative, and perfectly at home in a place devoted to restoration.
The Result : Unrequited Love
The finished paintings portray two figures bound by destiny yet separated by virtue, each occupying a world of their own despite their quiet proximity. Ravana's longing remains unanswered, while Sita's grace and unwavering resolve become the emotional center of the work. Lotus blossoms echo themes of purity, devotion, and unattainable love, while the warm palette fills the spa with a gentle sense of stillness. Sometimes the most powerful stories are not about love fulfilled, but about the grace of loving without possession.
Spring 2026, Village Thai Massage envisioned a fresh interpretation, so we reimagined Sita 2026 through our own artistic lens. To deepen the visual experience, we incorporated real cosmetic into the painting and embellished the flower pollen with shimmering diamond glitter. These unexpected materials catch the light beautifully, adding richness, texture, and a subtle sense of wonder that invites viewers to look a little closer.
